A new video has been posted on the history page!

In this video, John Westley Ridley Jr., speaks about his father, John Wesley Ridley Sr.

Jones County Georgia, where Ridley Sr. lived, was particularly notorious for mob violence during this period. Between 1890 and 1900, the state averaged more than one mob killing per month, with Black Americans being the primary targets.

While the frequency of mob violence declined in the first decade of the twentieth century, it was again active by 1911. This disturbing trend of mob violence was fueled by racial tensions, economic competition, and political conflict, leading to an environment of fear and intimidation for Black Americans living in the South.
